Reports indicate that no fewer than eight(8) persons have been burnt to death on Monday by an angry mob in Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara in Zamfara state northwestern Nigeria. This was after a student of the polytechnic was said to have committed a blasphemy against Prophet Muhammed.
The incident occurred when the student during an an exchange of words with a muslim adherent used language that was considered blasphemy, the student was said to have fled to a house for refuge from the angry mob but realizing they couldn’t get to him, the angry mob set the house on fire killing all (7) seven occupants of the building including the student.
The police in Zamfara state confirmed the incident stating that it in a bid to restore sanity , it has imposed an indefinite curfew in the town, while also calling on religious leaders to council their followers.
In the mean time the management of the Polytechnic has closed down the school to forestall further violence or reprisal attacks.
