MTN has reportedly laid off some of its contract staff, particularly those that work at the telecommunications call centers. According to inside sources, many of them were given their disengagement letters on thursday September 28th. Some of them that worked in their branch in Apapa, Lagos state, had their salaries reduced from N120,000 to N40,000 a month and were asked to continue working at their Ibadan office if they were still interested in the job.
MTN had earlier reacted to an alleged illegal repatriation of $13.92 billion leveled against it by Senator Dino Melaye at the senate plenary . Senator Dino Melaye had in a motion before the house, accused the Minister of Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah of colluding with the telecommunications company to illegally repatriate the said amount from Nigeria between 2006 to 2016.
