Some aviation workers have kicked against moves by the Federal Government to concession the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa and three other airports.
The unions are the Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and the National Union of air Transport Employees.
The Chairman of Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association of Nigeria at the Port Harcourt International Airport EMETU CHUKWU CHIWENDU in a chat with our Correspondent advised the Federal Government to make open modalities for the concession before implementation.
EMETU CHUKWU CHINWENDU expressed fears that some aviation workers may lose their job should the Federal Government go ahead with the planned concession.
On his part, the Vice Chairman of National Union of Air Transport Employees NUATE, Port Harcourt International Airport chapter, ARIT STRONGFACE frowned at moves by the Federal Government to concession the only viable airports.
ARIT STRONGFACE said the four major airports marked for concession are the only airport currently generating revenue for the Federal Government.
Meanwhile, some air travelers at the Port Harcourt International Airport have thrown their weight behind Federal Government plan to concession the airport alongside the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Lagos and Kano.
The air traveler said the concession will help improve facilities and ensure safety at the airports.
You will recall that the Minister of State for Aviation Senator HADI SIRIKA Tuesday declared that there was no going back on the Federal Government plan to concession the four major airports.
