Members of Rediya community in Rohtas District in India’s Bihar are reported to have cut off a 70-years-old woman’s tongue for seemingly being a witch. The elderly woman was left severely injured after being beaten with blunt instruments.
Villagers cut off a 70-year-old woman’s tongue
According to local media, the woman was sleeping with her granddaughter when she was allegedly attacked by villagers and held at gunpoint. Her granddaughter told police that three villagers entered their house at night and accused her grandmother of witchcraft, attacked her and cut off part of her tongue in the process.
The victim’s daughter-in-law added that the woman has been accused of witchcraft in the past by several villagers.
It’s unfortunate that the practice of hunting and torturing “witches” still continues to happen in some rural parts of Bihar and hundreds of women have been killed over recent years.
However, police investigations are on going.
