Haley is an American politician, who was the 29th United States Ambassador to the United Nations. A Republican, she served as the 116th Governor of South Carolina, and is a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives.
President Donald Trump announced the new development yesterday from the Oval Office and her resignation will take effect in December. While announcing her resignation, President Trump said she “has been very special to me” and “is a fantastic person” who has done exemplary work.
He equally added that “she’s done a fantastic job, and we’ve done a fantastic job together”. He went on to cite the progress toward a nuclear deal with North Korea then said, “we’re all happy for you in one way, but we hate to lose [you].”
He is hopeful that she would return in another capacity, letting her know she could have her pick of jobs if she wanted to come back.
Haley has been considered a rising star within the Republican Party and a leading candidate for president in 2020 if Trump decides not to re-run. She however cleared all possible doubts and rumours in a joint appearance with Trump, where she said she would be campaigning for Trump in 2020.
Nikki Haley resigns as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations
“For all of you that are going to ask about 2020, no, I am not running for 2020. I can promise you what I’ll be doing is campaigning for this one. So I look forward to supporting the president in the next election.”
She however assured the public that her family has been very supportive of her career and that “no personal reasons” prompted her departure, other than the pure belief that public servants should be term-limited and recognize when it’s time to leave.
Haley spoke glowingly of the president and his family. Talking about the President’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and the president’s elder daughter Ivanka Trump, she said:
“Jared is such a hidden genius that no one understands. And Ivanka has been such a great friend.”
Hinting that the couple volunteer their time at the White House in unpaid senior adviser positions doing ” a lot of things behind the scenes that I wish more people knew about.”
