Luxury Shoe Company Pulls Racism Stunt On Serena Williams

According to a new racial discrimination lawsuit, managers of Manhattan shoe company #GianvitoRossi, referred to tennis star #SerenaWilliams as “disgusting” and said she would never receive the same discounts as white celebrities. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whitney Wilburn, a former black employee of the company, says she began working for Gianvito Rossi back in 2015. However, once she began running the boutique, she says her boss, Grace Mazzilli, became “hostile to Wilburn based upon her race and age.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wilburn is 46-years old and claims in the civil suit that her “experience with Mazzilli left no doubt about Mazzilli’s racial animosity toward African Americans.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“For instance, when the world famous athlete Serena Williams, via her staff, asked for a discount on her extensive purchases, Gianvito managers responded with racially disparaging comments about Ms. Williams which made it clear that the company did not want African American women to wear its shoes,” the suit says. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Wilburn says her managers refused to give Williams the discount until a contact from #Vogue magazine reached out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“When later pressured to do so by a contact at Vogue magazine, they offered only a fraction of the discount that white celebrities typically receive,” the suit says. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Wilburn, she was fired in January 2017 for no real reason and was replaced with a “much younger white manager.”
