Donald Trump Issues Apology for Lewd 2005 Remarks

US Presidential Hopeful Donald Trump issued a rare apology after midnight Friday as the release of a 2005 tape of him making crude comments about women left his campaign in crisis. “Anyone who knows me knows these words don’t reflect who I am. I said it. I am wrong. I apologize,” Trump said in a video statement released on Twitter.

“I’ve never said I am a perfect person, nor pretended to be someone that I am not. I’ve said and done things I regret and the words released today on this more than decade-old video are one of them,” said Trump, who had earlier tried to shrug the remarks off as “locker-room banter.”

Trump, facing outrage from within his own party and elsewhere over the remarks, finished the 90-second apology with an attack on the Clintons, the Guardian reports. “I’ve said some foolish things but there is a big difference between the words and actions of other people,” he said. “Bill Clinton has actually abused women and Hillary has bullied, attacked, shamed and intimidated his victims. We will discuss this more in the coming days. See you at the debate on Sunday.”
